Startups, Innovation and Law

Since June 2016, the Institute for Research on Internet and Society has been working with partners and with the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais on public discussions regarding the consolidation of a pioneer legislative framework for startups in the State. Known for its innovation hubs, such as the startup ecosystems in Belo Horizonte and Santa Rita do Sapucaí, Minas Gerais has a promising future in the field of technology and innovation.

During the first semestrer of 2016, the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais began debating the proposal of a public policy to stimulate the startup sector at State level through Bill 3.578/2016, whose authorship stands with deputies Antônio Carlos Arantes (PSDB) and Dalmo Ribeiro (PSDB). Currently, it finds itself pending approval by the Comission for Constitution and Justice (CCJ) at the Assembly.

The creation of a public policy is a complex process. Its phases of construction and implementation must be open to contribution by citizens, which ends up supporting the achievement of a more direct and participative nature. Attentive to such aspects, the Institute for Research on internet and Society, along with the project of the Internet Law Clinic at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, have contributed to the construction of this important policy, stimulating the critical application of knowledge developed inside the University.
