Cultural Goods and Authors’ Rights in the Digital Age

The emergence of the Internet and new ICTs has revolutionized the mechanisms for production and dissemination of cultural goods, disrupting traditional authorship standards. The reality and context of figital network have caused intense transformations in the concept of legal protection of works and rights of authors.

Among the existing challenges are the need for solidifying the balance of interests between creators and users and, at the same time, expanding the sources of creativity, originality, public domain and compliance to fundamental rights, according to recommendations by the WIPO Agenda for Development and the Human Rights Council of the United Nations.

The project seeks to analyze how distinctive domestic and regional systems are conciliating new objectives in terms of access to works and to cultural goods and regulatory frameworks for creative platforms and for the exchange of audiovisual, musical and literary works, within the premises of collaboration, innovation and openness.
